PTA is already conducting successful raids against illegal issuance of SIM cards

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has been conducting successful searches around the country in an effort to put a stop to the unlawful distribution of SIM cards.

A mobile firm franc I see in Mingora Swat was the target of a successful operation that was carried out by the PTA Zonal Office Peshawar in collaboration with the FIA Cyber Crime Circle Peshawar. The suspect was believed to be unlawfully providing SIM cards. The suspects collected subscribers' biometric details (finger and thumb impressions) under the premise of BISP disbursements so that they could get SIM cards issued in their names.

In the same manner, the PTA Zonal Office and the FIA Cyber Crime Circle Gujranwala in Lahore carried out raids against three franchisees of a mobile firm who are suspected of illegally issuing SIM cards in Gujranwala, Pasroor, and Narowal. These locations are located in Lahore.

During the course of the raids, both active SIM cards and BVS devices that had been distributed by mobile providers and a bank for the purpose of BISP disbursements were seized. There were five individuals were taken into custody. The FIA is presently conducting additional investigations into the instances. PTA had already lodged concerns with FIA regarding the questionable distribution of SIM cards through various sales channels.

The searches conducted at both sites are evidence of the PTA's determination to put an end to the illegal distribution of SIM cards and to prevent people from getting around the Multi-finger Biometric Verification System (MBVS).
