Multinet Implements 'First in Region' OpenWiFi Technologies
Multinet, one of the biggest commercial communications firms in Pakistan, has made the announcement that it will be installing the OpenWiFi technology developed by the Telecom Infra Project to power Wi-Fi networks throughout the nation.
Customers in the hospitality, retail, sports, and entertainment, and other enterprise categories will have seamless access to high-speed connectivity provided by OpenWiFi networks operated by Multinet.
Multinet, which is well-known for providing cutting-edge telecom solutions to Pakistan, is the first managed service provider in the region to deploy OpenWiFi's technology stack. This enables the company to provide customers and the general public with connectivity that is seamless, quick, and inexpensive.
With the goal of achieving 'Connectivity for all,' Multinet has been working to provide high-quality public Wi-Fi throughout Pakistan. With its Wi-Fi infrastructure, the company has covered all of Pakistan's major airports as well as a variety of public places, shopping malls, and recreational areas.
According to Adnan H. Zaidi, Chief Operating Officer at Multinet, "Our singular mission is to deliver superior connectivity solutions for Pakistan and reach out to the public and masses with our public Wi-Fi initiative." This statement was made in reference to the company's goal to connect as many people as possible.
"We will continue to lead the market with innovation that provides exceptional service, quality, and reliability for the general public, our customers, and other stakeholders if we make use of open and disaggregated technology such as OpenWiFi. This will allow us to maintain our position as market leaders. This will significantly expand the footprint and reach of our public Wi-Fi network while maintaining its exceptional scalability.
"OpenWiFi is the perfect solution for Multinet because it offers competitive total cost of ownership (TCO) and eliminates vendor lock-in," said Sandeep Kohli, who is the Connectivity Technologies and Ecosystems Manager at Meta as well as a member of the TIP Open Optical and OpenWiFi Program Groups. "OpenWiFi is the perfect solution for Multinet because it offers competitive total cost of ownership (TCO) and eliminates vendor lock-in."
"It also gets rid of the need to introduce additional controllers, opening up new deployment use cases," such as "Wi-Fi networks built for the public, hospitality, sports, and entertainment, and retail segments," which were not previously addressed due to the fact that cost considerations were a factor in these markets.
According to Kristian Toivo, Executive Director of TIP, "Multinet is leading the region in open and disaggregated technology deployments, and we're enthusiastic to see how OpenWiFi can help Multinet's consumers." Multinet is a member of the Telecommunications Industry Partnership.
OpenWiFi is a Wi-Fi architecture that is built on open source and makes it possible to create multi-vendor, interoperable Wi-Fi networks.
The TIP OpenWiFi-based solution enables service providers such as Multinet to easily expand their Wi-Fi footprint while maintaining a robust experience. This is made possible by the seamless mixing and matching of access points and controllers from any TIP OpenWiFi-compliant manufacturer that can be built into a unified infrastructure by utilizing the solution.
In addition to this, the fact that it is open source enables developers to rapidly design new applications.
Buildout with local System Integrator partner in Pakistan, STARCOM Technologies (Pvt) Limited, using Edgecore APs integrated with their ecOpen Cloud Controller technology for their OpenWiFi network and hotspots backhauled with high-speed optical fiber infrastructure in order to provide the best possible user experience.
Multinet just recently made the announcement that it is in the process of building a 3.2 Tbps long-haul network infrastructure deployment utilizing TIP Open Optical and Packet Transport Technologies. This announcement serves to reinforce the company's commitment to open and agile disaggregated architecture and technologies.
OpenWiFi was first introduced to the public in 2021 and has since announced commercial deployments in the United States with Boingo Wireless, in India with Spectra, and a trial with the City of Dublin and Virgin Media that complies with the European Commission's WIFI4EU initiative, which is the benchmark for public Wi-Fi deployments in Europe. OpenWiFi was first introduced to the public in 2021.
